Husch Winery-Anderson Valley Wineries

husch winery

Located in the Anderson Valley in Mendocino County, Husch Winery is a family-owned vineyard that was originally founded in the 1970s by Tony and Gretchen Husch who planted Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Gewurztraminer. The Husch family ran the winery until the late 70s when they sold the winery and vineyards to the Oswalds, a California farming family, who still own the winery today.

Among the wineries in the Anderson Valley, Husch stands out as being among the most beautiful and unique properties. From the winery’s small but iconic tasting room that oozes old-school charm to the acres of rolling vineyards that sit against a stunning backdrop of forested mountains, and the vineyard’s scenic self-guided vineyard walks, Husch Winery offers visitors a special experience. The wines are also a big part of the draw, with Husch’s aromatic Gewurztraminer being the wine they are best known for.

Visiting Husch Winery

Husch’s tasting room is open seven days a week. The winery does not require reservations except for groups of 6 or more people. Tastings are currently normally held outdoors at the picnic tables in front of the tasting room and are conducted in a relaxed way with wine flights presented by a tasting room host and then left at the table for guests to enjoy at their own leisure. The number of wines poured varies but is normally somewhere around five wines.

Well-mannered pets are welcome and must be leashed. See directions to the winery.

The Wines

While Husch is perhaps best known for its dry and sweet Gewurztraminers the winery also makes excellent Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chenin Blanc, and a handful of other varieties grown either on their own property or sourced from nearby Anderson Valley vineyards owned by growers the winery has worked with for decades. Husch’s vineyards are all sustainable farmed and certified Fish Friendly.

Husch Winery’s Self-Guided Vineyard Walk

Husch Winery offers visitors the unique opportunity to explore their beautiful property and vineyards by taking a self-guided vineyard tour. The tour starts from the Gewurztraminer vineyards located just across from the tasting room before guiding guests through the different vineyard lots with informational placards at each stop that share information about a specific grape, wildlife on the property, winegrowing practices, etc.

Anyone who has the chance should take advantage of taking this walking tour. The views are fantastic, and it’s a fantastic way to connect on a deeper level with the region and land.
