Amazing Wine in a Can-Maker Wine Co.

maker wine co. four wines in cans

Maker Wine Co. started with the crazy idea of making premium wine in a can, made in small quantities, and the people behind them more approachable.

Maker takes phenomenal wines made by stellar winemakers at boutique and micro-wineries. They also showcase diverse winemakers and tell their stories, so that they can better connect with wine drinkers. Then they package “wine for one” in earth-conscious cans. Because high-end wine doesn’t have to come in heavy, 750 ml glass bottles.

Maker Wine co. founders Sarah and Kendra saw how hard it was for small winemakers to get on the map when they are up against massive distributors and the three-tier system. So they decided to launch a direct-to-consumer business that would allow them to lift up more of the small players (winemakers without wineries, small, boutique wine brands, etc.) in the industry. Since launching in 2018, Maker has gotten a lot of great press. For good reason.

The wines Maker Wine co. cans are not just fantastic but are also unique and would be otherwise difficult if not impossible for most consumers to find.

A few of my favorite Maker wines are the sparkling Sauvignon Blanc by Chris Christensen of Bodkin Wines, the Grenache Rose and Cabernet Pfeffer from Nicole Walsh of Ser Wines, and the Carbonic Red from Terah Wines. BUT, there are so many more to love as they keeping adding new wines from fantastic wineries every year.

Maker is the brand that changed my mind about whether we’d ever see truly amazing wines in cans. The answer is yes.

One of the coolest things about Maker Wine co. is that they include a story about the winemaker who made each wine on the can. This allows these winemakers to gain more exposure for their brands. I also love that they’ve figured out how to make the first truly premium quality, boutique wines in a can available in the market to people all over the country.

While there are now more boutique wineries putting wines in cans (Two Shepherds in Windsor is one example), it’s still really rare to find great quality wine in cans at supermarkets or wine and liquor stores.

I recommend trying Maker’s ‘Best Sellers’ or ‘Red Wine Mixed’ pack to start. I’m a picky wine person after twenty years in the wine industry and professional wine tasting, but I absolutely love the wines I’ve tried from Maker Wine co., so much so that I’ve been promoting them to everyone I know, since.
