Toluma Farms and Tomales Farmstead Creamery

Tomales Farmstead Creamery was purchased by David Jablons and Tamara Hicks in 2003.

The farm started producing artisanal goat and sheep milk cheeses in 2013 and created the brand Toluma Farms for their artisan farmstead cheeses.

They have a flock of over a hundred East Fresian sheep and two hundred goats (Saanens, Alpines, La Manchas, Oberhaslis, Tobbenbergs and Nubians) and offer farm tours and cheese tastings on a weekly basis to visitors as well as to schools and educational groups.

Toluma Farms produces five goat and sheep milk cheeses, all of the highest quality and made in a style closer to what you may be used to if you eat soft ripened, and aged French cheeses (that’s me!). They have won numerous awards for their cheeses and farmstead practices including a 2019 American Cheese Society 1st place award for their Liwa cheese and a 2015 Good Food Award.

I am not exaggerating when I say that these cheeses are my FAVORITE California-made cheeses (alongside Cowgirl Creamery and Pennyroyal Farm cheeses for my top three favorite artisan cheese producers in the state). And I am a French cheese lover (aka French cheese snob)…

Tours are on the first Sunday of each month, from 1:00pm – 3:00. Private tours are also available, and the farm hosts an array of annual events (during non-pandemic times).
